Abstract The study investigated inclusive education and gender as determinants of social studies students’ attitude towards
learning of social studies in College of Education, Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. The aim was to determine the
relationship between inclusive education, gender, and social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social
studies. Two hypotheses were postulated to guide the study. A total of 150 randomly selected social studies students
across the Department of Social studies, College of Education, Agbor, Delta State were administered with inclusive
education scale and social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social studies questionnaire for data collection.
The hypotheses were analysed using Multiple Regression tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that
the criterion variable (social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social studies) showed that social studies
students’ attitude towards learning of social studies correlates positively, and low towards inclusive education. Also,
gender was not a determinant of both social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social studies and their
inclusive education in schools’ activities. The results also showed that only social studies students’ inclusion in
educational activities with the regressional coefficient (b) of 0.258, and a beta weight of 0.296 significantly
contributed to social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social studies, while the contribution of gender
was not significant in predicting social studies students’ attitude towards learning of social studies. Based on these
findings recommendations were made.

Abstract Nigeria’s political elites have toyed with the pathway to Nigeria’s
national security, and therefore, placed Nigeria and her people on a
perpetual developmental backwardness. Sadly, Nigeria, the supposed
giant of Africa has been weighed down by the challenge of corruption, as
well as insecurity. The deficiency in human capital development in
Nigeria today is exerting untold pressure on her national development
plans, policies and programmes. The development of human resources is
indispensable for the developmental strive of any continent or nation.
Hence, the inability of the Nigerian state to fully actualize her human
capital development drive calls for concern. The aim of this article,
therefore, is to investigate into the indispensability of investing human
capital development in fostering national security in Nigeria. Social
studies education is an instrument for renewal of some societal practices
that constitute obstacles to national security and development.
Consequently, this paper will examine the place of social studies
education in the context of Nigeria for national security. The roles social
studies education could play in producing good citizens, who could assist
in no small measure in tackling this complex problem of national
insecurity in Nigeria were discussed. In conclusion, the paper has
logically established the fact that, there is significant correlation
between social studies education and human capital development.
Finally, workable recommendations are given, among them is that

Abstract The use of computers and computer accessories is an innovative idea and
practice to enhance teaching and learning. It is important for every student to
self-assess himself or herself on his or her proficiency in ICT. This study is on
self-assessment on proficiency of using ICT among social studies and educa-
tion economics undergraduates in Delta State. The study is an evaluation as
well as a survey research design. The population of the study consists of 272
final year social studies and education economics undergraduates of tertiary
institutions in Delta State (124 social studies and 148 education economics).
The instrument for data collection for the study is a researcher-made rating
scale titled “Self Assessment of ICT Proficiencies of Students Scale (SAICTPSS)”
with 30 items. The face validity of the instrument was established while in-
ternal consistency was established on a one shot method of administration
using Cronbach alpha statistics with a reliability index of 0.86. In analyzing
the data that were collected, mean score was used to answer the research
questions. One sample t-test (t-test of difference between sample and popula-
tion means) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. It was
found among others that social study undergraduates are not proficient in the
use of ICT. It was also indicated that education economics undergraduates
are proficient in the use of ICT. Based on the findings, it was recommended
that social study undergraduates should be well exposed and equipped with
ICT skills so as to adapt with the technological driven society of this time.
Also, social studies lecturers should be trained on the use of ICT in the
teaching and learning of social studies.

Abstract Entrepreneurship education (EE) has been viewed as a crucial tool for a country's economic
growth. Every country in the world attempts to develop and strengthen its economy by considering
all available options. Nations are attempting to or have already implemented the teaching and
learning of EE in schools in response to the discovery of EE as a tool for economic development.
In higher education institutions (HEIs) in Nigeria, entrepreneurial education has been offered as a
field of study, discipline, or area of expertise. Researchers currently criticise the way EE is learned
at colleges and universities for a variety of reasons, such as the use of generalist teachers, the
dearth of adequate teaching materials, the inadequate financing of EE programmes, the low rate
of graduates choosing entrepreneurship as a career, and more. Additionally, higher education
students in Nigeria have not received appropriate orientation towards the value of EE for their
present, future, families, and general well-being. Additionally, it has been noted that the contextfree methodology used in Nigeria's colleges and universities to teach EE makes it challenging for
students to comprehend. The scope of this paper is mainly on pedagogy and not necessarily on
policy. Therefore, this paper examines a definition of EE that is focused on Nigeria, the objectives
of EE with a focus on its learning and teaching in HEIs, the environment for EE teaching and
learning in HEIs, how EE teaching and learning can be improved, and EE teaching and learning.

Abstract Robotic mediated teaching aids are innovative teaching aids used in contemporary times to advance and enhance
teaching and learning in schools be it lower basic (primary 1-3), middle basic (primary 4-6), upper basic (JSS
1-3), senior secondary schools and higher education institutions (HEIs) (university, college of education and
polytechnic) in the context of Nigeria. It also has same resemblance with artificial intelligence (AI). The robotic
mediated teaching aids can be explored and used in teaching various subjects in secondary schools including
social studies, English language, mathematics, economics, integrated science, physical science, health science,
biology, business education, technical drawing, civic education, music, and so on. This study therefore
investigated the availability of robotic mediated teaching aids in secondary schools in Ika North-East local
government area of Delta State. Three research questions were raised by the researcher to guide the study. The
design of the study was descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 6700 secondary
school teachers in Ika North-East. The sample size of the study was 240 secondary school teachers which were
selected using simple random sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection was a questionnaire
tagged Students Robot Mediated Instruction Questionnaire (SRMIQ). The coefficient of the instrument is
reliable having been used overtime by researchers. The instrument was validated by experts from faculty of
Education, Delta State University, Abraka. Mean and standard deviation was employed in data analysis. The
findings of the study were that teachers and students are not aware of robotic mediated teaching aids; there were
no robots in secondary schools for teaching and learning in Ika North-East; most teachers including social
studies teachers were not innovative enough in the use of information and communication technologies’ (ICTs)
tools in teaching and learning in secondary schools in Ika North-East and there were no funds for the purchase of
robots and other ICT tools in secondary schools in Ika North-East. The implications of the finding are that:
students may not be computer literate because of unavailability of ICT teaching aids in secondary schools.
Second, students may find it difficult to pass JAMB because it is now a computer powered examination. Based
on the findings and implications, the researcher recommended that teachers should be mobilized and sensitized
on the importance of robotic mediated teaching aids in the 21st century; government should increase funding in
secondary schools to enable authorities buy computer aids for teaching and learning; teachers should be
encouraged to try out innovative teaching methods in the teaching and learning processes, an

Abstract This paper sought to explore the appropriate pedagogy that can be employ for the teaching and
learning of Social Studies and Civic Education by the Social Studies teachers. Although the two
disciplines, Social Studies and Civic Education are newly introduced in Nigerian school curriculum in the
early 19’s and late 19’s. The problem of poor performance of students in these disciplines had led to the out
cry of the state ministry of education, policy makers in education and stakeholders. Most of the educators in
the state attributed this to lack of qualified and well trained teachers, inexperienced teachers,
unprofessionally trained teachers, lacks of instructional materials, declining instructional quality, teachers’
characteristics and teachers ineffective adoption of appropriate teaching pedagogy. This research work
therefore call for the need of Social Studies teacher to adopt the necessary teaching pedagogy for effective
teaching and learning of the disciplines. It is against this background the work is beamed on the concept of
Social Studies, concept of Civic Education, and the concept of pedagogy. The paper also focuses on
teaching as inquiry pedagogy, which has to do with: focusing inquiry, teaching inquiry and learning inquiry.
Factors to be considered by the Social Studies teacher in selecting pedagogy for teaching of Social Studies
and Civic Education in Junior secondary school, Assessing the effectiveness of Social Studies and Civic
Education teaching pedagogy in junior secondary schools and how we can achieve excellence in Social

Abstract Contemporary issues in global development abound. These issues may be social, economic, psychological,
technological, physical, or spiritual. Teachers’ retraining opportunities and job effectiveness are emerging trends in
work places that need to be given priority attention. Teachers in all institutions of learning, whether lower basic
education level schools (primary 1-3), middle basic education level schools (primary 4-6), upper basic education
level schools (JSS 1-3), senior secondary schools, or higher education institutions (HEIs) (universities, colleges of
education and polytechnics in the Nigerian context) need retraining opportunities for effectiveness and efficiency.
This study examined teachers’ retraining opportunities and job effectiveness in public secondary school in Imo State,
Nigeria. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a correlational
design. The population of the study was 673 teachers and principals of the 33 public senior secondary schools in
Owerri Municipal Council, Imo State, Nigeria, West Africa. This comprises 33 principals and 640 teachers. The sample of the study is 220 principals and teachers in the study area. The multistage sampling technique was adopted
in selecting the sample. Two sets of self-structured questionnaire title “Teachers’ Retraining Opportunities
Questionnaire” (TROQ) and “Job Effectiveness Questionnaire” (JEQ) were used in the collection of data from the
respondents. The instruments were validated by three experts two in Educational Management and one from
Measurement and Evaluation, Imo State University. A test of internal consistency was adopted in establishing the
reliability of the instrument. Reliability indexes of 0.81, 0.85, and 0.79 were obtained for the three clusters of the
instrument. The data collected were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient. The findings
of the study revealed that there is a positive relationship between teachers retraining opportunities such as Post-
Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), workshops, and mentoring and teachers job effectiveness in public senior
secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council, Imo State, Nigeria, West Africa. Based on the findings of the study,
it was recommended among others that the State Ministry of Education should come up with a policy that would
require all teachers in government secondary schools who do not have their first degree in Education to enrol for a
Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. This would enhance their effectiveness in teaching to a high extent.
